National Women's Wine Competition 2009
Loris Scagliarini – May 6, 2008

National Women Wine CompetitionAn all-star panel of 36 all-women judges determined that 15 wines imported and distributed by WineCountry.IT, L.L.C., and produced by estates associated with the Italian Flavor Consortium, were worthy of 5 silver and 10 bronze medals. WineCountry.IT, L.L.C. wines competed against over 1,400 wines from 31 US states and 7 foreign countries in the National Women’s Wine Competition 2009™, which concluded recently in Santa Rosa, CA.

This is the second year the competition has accepted international entries, thus raising the difficulty of earning a medal.

The medals have not been deliveres yet, but we did receive the official communication, and the Italian Flavor Consortium associate producers' wines medal winners are:

Judging Methodology
NWWC is a true blind tasting, which means that the judges do not know the maker of the wine, they never see the labels, nor do they know the price of the wine. This makes it possible for the judges to identify outstanding wines across the range of price points and varietals. In addition, each judging session opens with an initial tasting of brut Champagne to clear the judge's palates and create the best tasting conditions.

The Judges
In addition to head judge Rebecca Murphy, founder and director of the Dallas Morning News Wine Competition, and a candidate for the M.W. degree, the wine world's most advanced academic degree, the jury included:
